WM car owners warned of summer break-in risk

West Midlands Police have reminded local residents that leaving the windows and doors of their homes open during the hot summer weather could result in the theft of their cars.

According to the constabulary, homeowners in the area have seen an increase in the number of break-ins since summer began, with many opportunist thieves taking advantage of lax home security to steal car keys left near doors and windows.

The police cited the example of Walsall, where 18 weather-related burglaries have taken place since the beginning of May 2010, resulting in the theft of vehicles including a Volvo, BMW, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz…
