Full-back is football’s least glamorous position. Strikers hog the headlines, goalkeepers make spectacular saves, centre-backs are heroic, midfielders dominant and wingers thrilling. Full-backs, by and large, just quietly do their unheralded job.
Unheralded but crucial. With poor full-backs a team’s side-doors are left open and opposing teams get inside and ransack. But Walsall reckon they have found a capable guardian of one those doors in Darryl Westlake…
