Staffordshire Hoard fund hits £3.3m target
Express & Star 24 Mar 10
The Staffordshire Hoard will now be on permanent display at museums in the Midlands after fundraisers hit their £3.3 million target almost a month ahead of schedule.

The Hoard, the largest ever find of Anglo-Saxon gold, will now be on display at museums in Birmingham and Stoke.
The National Heritage Memorial Fund, a government funding pot for historical artefacts, pledged £1,285,000 to the campaign, hitting the fund target. The treasures were dug up in a field in Hammerwich, near Burntwood last July...

Part of Hoard may be displayed in Walsall
Walsall Advertiser 23 Mar 10
Elements of the Anglo-Saxon hoard of treasure discovered near Brownhills could be exhibited in the Walsall borough. Walsall's Museums Service is working with local authorities in Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham, Lichfield and Tamworth with a view to housing some of the treasure for public display. Criticism has been pointed at Walsall Council for not immediately declaring its interest in the Hoard, despite it being discovered just metres from the borough boundary...

Fresh dig at Staffordshire hoard treasure site
BBC News 19 Mar 10
Another dig is to be held at the site of where the UK's largest haul of Anglo-Saxon treasure was discovered near Walsall. The original find of 1,500 gold and silver pieces was made by Bloxwich metal detectorist Terry Herbert in a farmer's field near Burntwood in July 2009. Experts say the new dig is not expected to turn up any more gold, but could reveal how the original items came to be there...

Huge fish rescue bid as Chasewater drained
Express & Star 18 Mar 10
A major fish rescue operation will take place at Chasewater Reservoir next week before water levels sink dangerously low during draining, before essential dam safety work starts. Thousands of fish must be removed from the Chasewater Country Park site. Earlier this month contractors caught samples of fish to assess their health and experts have now deemed that their condition is “satisfactory.”
