Again on Saturday, a mish-mash of a game saw them come back from the dead only to leave more questions than answers. They are revealing and baffling in equal measure. Troy Deeney returned from suspension with a second-half double to earn Walsall a point that looked a million miles away after a wretched first-half display. Former Orient loanee Peter Till was the catalyst for the recovery. Twice the winger supplied teasing crosses from which Deeney tucked home his seventh and eighth goals of the season...
The Saddlers gave just about as shocking a first half performance as you could ever wish not to see on Saturday, gifting two goals thanks to some rank bad team defending and goalkeeping for the first and an awful mistake by captain for the day Dwayne Mattis for the second. That might not have been so bad, if not for the fact that we also looked completely and utterly devoid of any creative spark at all, giving their ‘keeper his easiest 45 minutes of the season...
Notes to Hutchings:-
1) You are allowed to bring on substitutes, to freshen things up a bit, you know.
2) Next time, give them the half-time rollocking BEFORE the match.
Troy Deeney’s second-half double rescued Walsall as they recovered from two down to snatch a deserved point against Leyton Orient. Jarvis and Darren Byfield both squandered excellent chances to win it, but Walsall will be pleased with a point after an awful first-half...
