Walsall Arboretum – alive with the sound of music

From pop to punk with rock, blues, folk and blue grass thrown in – a Music Festival planned for Walsall Arboretum on Sunday 6 September promises a real boogie in the bandstand.
Chuckery artist and craftsman Pete Constable has organised the event, supported by Walsall Council’s parks team, and the gig will raise money for Age Concern.

Organiser Pete is part of a cooperative group that holds open mic and live music nights, known as Live Lounge, at The Fountain pub in Walsall. He explained: “The bandstand is a great feature but I think it’s under used.
“This event is just the sort of thing that should be happening regularly in the Arboretum and if our festival is a hit perhaps more people will come forward to make use of it.”
Pete said he had chosen to raise money for Age Concern following the death of his mother a few years ago. He cared for her for several years and he said the experience made him more aware of the needs of older people. “I just want people to support the festival and have a good time while helping to raise as much money as possible for Age Concern,” he added.
Admission is free but people are being asked to make donations to the charity.
Councillor Barry Sanders, Walsall Council Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “This is a great gesture by Pete and I hope to see a packed crowd on the day.”
The Music Festival runs from 12noon until 6pm.
