Wiseman Willenhall workers win snow bonus

In recognition for working on through the recent bad weather and for taking on extra shifts, staff at a milk distribution centre in Willenhall are to receive a £100 bonus.
Robert Wiseman Dairies have announced that sales during the extreme weather were up by a record 10% and the 150 workers at the Ashmore Lake Way site will be rewarded for their hard work. The Glasgow based firm produces, processes and delivers a quarter of all the milk consumed in Britain each day and employs 3,500 across the country.
Notable for their cow-inspired truck liveries, the company supplies milk to a number of supermarket chains and say that volumes were up 10.5% for the half year. A recent contract to supply the Co-operative Retail Group, the extension of a current contract with Sainsbury’s and the collapse of Dairy Farmers of Britain has helped the company to increase market share. Major retailers reported an upturn in milk sales during the bad weather leading to suggestions of panic buying. Wiseman reacted by increasing production and staff struggled through the snow to work longer shifts and seven-days-a-week. Chief Executive Robert Wiseman said: “In the past few weeks, our staff met every challenge thrown at them. We successfully delivered record orders for milk during some of the worst weather conditions we have ever experienced.
“Our customers have expressed their appreciation, and we wanted to say thank you to our staff for their attitude, commitment and dedication in extreme conditions.”
On Thursday, shares in Robert Wiseman were up 2.9% at 490.5p. Taking into account National Insurance contributions, the bonus pay-out will cost the company £400,000.
