Secret buyer snaps up Willenhall Town’s ground

Struggling Willenhall Town face an uncertain future after the sale of its Noose Lane ground to a mysterious buyer. Weak financial performance at the club, mirrored by poor form on the pitch, means that the future looks bleak for the Lockmen.
In June last year, receivers were called in by landowners Marston`s Brewery who are owed £60,000 by the club. The ground was put up for sale in September and four private bids were received before Christmas. Marston`s picked the most attractive bid but the identity of the eventual purchaser remains secret. Mike Allwood, of property specialist Andrew and Ashwell, said: “A sale has been agreed but at this stage the party wants to remain anonymous. It will now have to go through the legal process.”
The intentions of the new owner are not known, leading to fears that the Northern Premier League Division One club may loose its home of 34 years. Acting Chairman, Ian Bridgen said: “They are not telling us who it is yet, it is all being kept close to their chest at the moment and we will have to wait to find out who is buying it. We are hoping whoever buys it will be sympathetic towards us and let us stay.”
