Thousands of burst pipes have been dealt with by councils and housing associations in the Black Country and Staffordshire during the last month – with repair bills running into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

In Walsall, the council’s property services department carried out repairs to 50 buildings. Walsall Housing Group carried out 2,000 more jobs than normal in December, with 500 related to burst pipes…

It’s minus 8C outside this morning in New Invention and thanks to the “caring” attitude of Severn Trent residents in the Crab Lane area are resigned to a day without running water. Thanks for NOTHING!

Severn Trent has decided to ignor requests to put off their planned maintenance work in the Crab Lane area of New Invention, Willenhall, which means residents in that area are without running water.

Cards went through doors in the area affected earlier this week announcing that residents should not use things that use water such as dishwashers, washing machines and central heating systems whilst the works are in progress…

Walsall Canal is to be dredged in a £40,000 scheme which enthusiasts say will bring the waterway back to life. Work to clear the canal bed, which flows through most parts of the borough, will begin within weeks and take two to three months.

It is hoped dredging will encourage more barges to pass through what supporters say is an interesting but neglected stretch of canal which has fallen victim to fly-tippers. A special vessel will be used for the work…

A butcher with a bucket of water had to come to the rescue of a customer at a Wednesbury hair salon after a water company accidentally cut off supplies.

Residents and office workers were also affected after a neighbouring pub failed to pay its bill in Wednesbury. Helen Evans, who runs Masterkutz in Union Street, was without water since 10am on Wednesday…
