Government-scrapped regional development agency Advantage West Midlands is seeking to sell-off land at two key regeneration sites in Walsall with the possibility of open-cast mining at one of them.

The first 22 homes on the Walsall Waterfront development have been constructed. The £65m project, which will comprise more than 300 homes in total, is expected to create 200 jobs.
The development, by Jessup Build Develop, will also include office and retail space alongside the 322 homes. A further 17 affordable canal-side apartments are due to be completed in February which will also be available to rent through housing association The Accord Group…

Given the level of utter drivel spoken by politicians of differing persuasions, competence and ability to tell the truth, how pleasant to enjoy a period of at least partial silence from usually shrill Walsall council leaders.
When a promised £100million for school building was suddenly pulled by the coalition government, our Conservative administration with stoical resignation muttered something about it being a bit bureaucratic anyway, never mind. Six months ago and prior to the election that was never won, the same administration bellowed outrage at the fact that the previous government had the temerity to ask to see the books. With a history of accounting that is hardly exemplary, central government had every right to know what Walsall was doing with central government money. Since then, silence until a Notice of Motion at a full meeting of the council last week. The notice called for a reversal of the “short-sighted” decision to cancel BSF. Cabinet and their tame councillors voted the motion down…

Construction work has started on a development with 164 new homes which forms the Walsall Waterfront South flagship regeneration project. This is the second phase of the canalside development being built by Cannock-based firm Jessup Build Develop on land in Charles Street.

A threatened major housing scheme to regenerate the site of MG Rover’s former plant has been given the go-ahead – after a government agency found £3.6 million to subsidise it. And another £6.5 million has been found to subsidise building 164 homes at Walsall town centre near the canal, at a development known as the Waterfront South development.
