More than 3,750 bus drivers across the West Midlands have been offered a pay rise of just 1.5 per cent – as their company rakes in profits of £80,000 a day.
A New Year wage battle is on the cards at Birmingham-based transport giant National Express after the firm tabled the initial offer to Unite the union.

Letters have been sent out to more than 1,300 workers at Walsall Council asking them to take voluntary redundancy.
A total of 427 jobs will be axed at the council over the next three years as part of hard-hitting plans to save £65 million. Council chiefs say 187 of these will be posts that are already vacant, leaving 240 posts still facing the chop…

Around 60 members of the Unite and Unison unions were outside Walsall Council House on Wednesday night to show opposition to public sector job cuts that could be about to hit the borough.
They greeted members of Walsall’s ruling cabinet as they headed into a meeting where they were looking at proposals for next year’s budget.
The cuts could see the axe fall on around 350 posts in Walsall, borough council leader Mike Bird has said. Of these posts around 165 were already vacant, he explained…

Workers at Jaguar Land Rover, including employees at two plants in the West Midlands, have voted overwhelmingly to accept a deal including a two-year pay rise which union leaders said would secure their jobs for a decade.
Unite said 74% of workers at Castle Bromwich and Solihull, along with Merseyside plant Halewood, accepted the deal which will see pay increase by 5% this year and by RPI inflation plus 0.5% the following year…

Cadbury workers have voted overwhelmingly to accept a 3.7 per cent pay rise from new owners Kraft following a tough five-month battle with management.
The deal was approved by 1,133 workers, with only 47 against, and one spoilt paper. The ballot result, revealed last night, will now be backdated to March 31, providing a substantial bonus for up to 1,000 workers at the firm’s flagship Bournville factory…
