Wednesbury town centre has been reopened after a bomb was reported outside a police station.

Officers cordoned off a large area around Wednesbury police station after military ordnance was reported in the back of a van close to the station.

A member of the public walked into the police station just before 4pm today and told officers that they had seen a suspect package in a van in the car park next door…

Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield after a suspicious package was discovered.

The A&E department was evacuated shortly after 8.20am and police closed Rectory Road at Bedford Road.

The public are advised to avoid the area and if Accident & Emergency services are required the nearest hospitals are Heartlands & Walsall Manor…

Today is the fifth anniversary of the horrific bombings in London which claimed the lives of 52 innocent people and injured over 700 more. My thoughts and prayers are with all those who lost loved ones and all those whose lives were so cruelly affected by this murderous and immoral act.

7/7 was an attack on all of us, irrespective of race or religion. As the Muslim Council of Britain note ‘this was an attack on the very concept of an open pluralistic society and all those – Muslim and non-Muslim alike – who wish to be part of it. A suspicious powder brought Wolverhampton’s Royal Mail delivery and sorting office to a standstill. No-one was allowed in or out of the city’s Sun Street mail centre, which deals with more than 13million items per week, after a suspicious powder spilled out of a package at around 8pm on Wednesday night. It is believed the substance discovered was a type of aluminium sulphate.

The problem has caused a “small proportion” of mail being posted out to areas other than Stoke-on-Trent, Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton to be delayed. Three workers also had to be decontaminated as a precaution.
