A Leamore man who made national headlines earlier this year after his behaviour with a Taser Gun led his own lawyer to describe him as a real-life Homer Simpson, has again been before the courts.

Ricky Hodgkinson, 27, of Providence Lane pleaded guilty to stealing 13 packets of chocolate bars from Home Bargains. He also pleaded guilty to taking £50 of goods from Cool Trader in Bloxwich. The thefts were made to fund his heroin addiction. Hodgkinson, unemployed, was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £70 compensation which is equivalent to the value of the stolen goods.

In April this year as a result of his involvement in a drugs raid, he was issued with an 18 month supervision order and 60 day drug treatment order and had to pay £60 in costs. It came to light that he had spent £100 on an illegal Taser Gun which he either bought on behalf of a friend or was intended for his own self defence.

Deciding to test the reliability of his purchase, he shot himself in the chest with the one million volt stun gun and then complained that it did not hurt enough and that he wanted his money back.

Sources close to West Midlands Police deny the rumour that they are to nominate Mr Hodgkinson for an honourable mention in the online Darwin Awards. The Darwin Awards celebrate the efforts of individuals who attempt to enrich the human gene pool by removing themselves from it.
