Rushall Olympic completed a comfortable victory at neighbours Pelsall Villa thanks to three second half goals without reply as the Pics retained the Vic Dolphin Trophy after last seasons annual fixture was washed out.

The score may have been 0-0, but it was certainly not for lack of action as Chasetown and Aston Villa served up a hugely entertaining pre-season friendly at the Scholars Ground on Monday.

Before a large crowd of over 600, a Villa side consisting principally of reserves proved a great match for the ever-improving Scholars, and some very lively play and plenty of chances resulted…

The Saddler’s were unlucky not to score in the tie, as they enjoyed the majority of the possession.

A 4-3-3 formation was adopted with Stokes, Lancashire, Lescott and Smith making the back four, Marshall, Richards and Taundry in midfield and Deeney, Byfield and Nicholls up front.

Leamington put the brakes on Rushall

The final score line distinctly flattered higher league Leamington against a Rushall Olympic outfit that arguably deserved a share of the spoils, but who instead found themselves on the end of a two-nil defeat with early and late goals proving to be their ultimate downfall.

Within 60 seconds of the start Rushall’s Kyle Brady flashed an effort marginally wide of the right hand post from the edge of the box, but it was the visitors who claimed the initiative after only four minutes when Matt Lewis sent a diving header past ‘keeper Tom Harper after connecting with a centre from strike partner Luke Corbett…
