A nice thought. But perhaps, considering the state that the Saddlers are in at the bottom of League One, the troops out there might reciprocate and send a few good-luck wishes and ‘keep your chin up’ missives from the war-zone back to The Banks’s Stadium.

Walsall Football Club have swooped to sign a quartet of players. Winger Julian Gray, defenders Aaron Lescott and Oliver Lancashire, and goalkeeper David Bevan have all agreed contracts at the Banks’s Stadium.

Walsall are said to be trialling former Southampton youngster Oliver Lancashire.
Lancashire, a centre back, made his debut for Southampton on 14th September 2008, starting against Queens Park Rangers. It was an unhappy debut, as he was awarded a straight red card for an awful tackle on Damien Delaney on 30 the minutes mark. Five games later Ollie saw red again, for a second bookable offence in their 0-0 draw at Sheffield United. With only minutes left ‘The Saints’ held on.
