Birchfield Harriers are well represented in a 32-strong GB squad selected for the European Indoor Championships in Paris from March 4-6.
But there was disappointment for Darlaston’s Mark Lewis-Francis, who will miss the European Indoor Championships after picking up a groin injury. Lewis- Francis pulled up with the problem during his 60m heat in Birmingham and will be out of action for at least two months…

“Darlaston Dart” Mark Lewis-Francis insists the London Olympics are firmly at the back of his mind as he bids to play a starring role at two major championships in 2011.
The 28-year-old Birchfield Harrier enjoyed a year to savour in 2010 as he stunned, among others, Dwain Chambers to claim European silver in Barcelona. He went on to win individual silver and relay gold at the Commonwealth Games – and began 2011 in fine style last weekend, roaring to a 60m triumph at the Aviva International in Glasgow in 6.66secs.
It is all a world away from the heartache he sustained in 2008…

Aldridge swimming star Tully Kearney is set to follow in the footsteps of double Paralympic gold medallist Eleanor Simmonds. She has been approached by the British Swimming Talent Squad that helped Ellie on the path to glory.
Kearney will be considered for the World Class programme following her three-medal haul – including two golden displays – at the DSE Nationwide Short Course Championships in Sheffield at the weekend. And with her eyes set firmly on competing at the Paralympics, the future looks bright for the 13-year-old, who swims for Boldmere Swimming Club in Sutton Coldfield…

David Roberts has the chance to make Paralympic history at the London 2012 – but admits Aldridge-born teen sensation Ellie Simmonds could steal his thunder in the capital.
