Aldridge swimming star Tully Kearney is set to follow in the footsteps of double Paralympic gold medallist Eleanor Simmonds. She has been approached by the British Swimming Talent Squad that helped Ellie on the path to glory.

Kearney will be considered for the World Class programme following her three-medal haul – including two golden displays – at the DSE Nationwide Short Course Championships in Sheffield at the weekend. And with her eyes set firmly on competing at the Paralympics, the future looks bright for the 13-year-old, who swims for Boldmere Swimming Club in Sutton Coldfield…

Work has started on a £5 million extension at a Wednesfield fencing firm that has won a contract for the 2012 Olympic Games. A 50,000 sq ft extension at Zaun, in Steel Drive, will create 30 new jobs.

It will double Zaun’s manufacturing ability, allowing it to design, manufacture, supply and install a new high security fence and gates around the 10.5-mile perimeter of the Olympic Park in East London ahead of the event.

A brave paralympian hopeful is on target for London 2012 after scooping bronze, silver and gold in his first international competition. Ryan Cockbill, of Great Barr, was part of an eight-strong squad of Brits who competed at the IPC Shooting World Cup in Poland.

Despite breaking his neck three years ago in a swimming pool accident the 19 year-old competed against teams from eight nations including Poland, Slovakia and Greece in three events: Prone, Standing and Falling Target…
