Property asking prices fell for the third month in a row during September as estate agents continued to have record levels of unsold stock on their books, according to new figures.

House prices in Walsall are on the up, according to figures released by the Land Registry.

The average cost of buying a home in the borough was £147, 275, a rise of 4.1% during January and March with only Bromsgrove at 5.2% recording a higher rise in the West Midlands while Dudley rose by 1.8% and Solihull saw an increase of 1.1%.

In the last 12 months Walsall’s house prices stayed static, compared to the seven other metropolitan authorities in the region which all registered a fall.

Homes in Birmingham saw the biggest drop of nearly 12 per cent.

The average final sale price in Walsall was also higher than elsewhere in the Black Country and also topped Birmingham and Coventry, but trailed significantly behind Solihull at £219,480 and Bromsgrove at £236.161.

The number of mortgages for house purchase continued to climb during April, but still remained well short of that in April last year. The Council of Mortgage Lenders, speaking for both banks and building societies, said its members lent 35,600 house purchase loans in April worth a total of £4.5billion – up 16 per cent on March in both number and value.
