Bones and Birch seal points for Scholars

The “after the Lord Mayor’s Show” atmosphere that some expected following Saturday’s historic victory over Grimsby Town was thankfully absent and the Scholars put on an excellent attacking display with a wonder goal from man of the match Ramone Stephens the highlight.

Chasetown were keen to impress at the start of a busy week with three fixtures in five days. They had the first chance of the evening when Ben Jevons rose to head Mark Branch’s cross wide of the far post but the flag was up for offside, while the Gladiators’ first attempt came when skipper James Lukic put Gareth Davies’s corner wide in the ninth minute…

Scholars notch consecutive wins

Chasetown made it two Evo-Stik Premier League wins in three days in a seven-goal thriller at Matlock Town on Tuesday night.

For much of the game the Gladiators appeared to be the better side, but following a crazy twelve-minute period in the first half with two goals flying in for each side the Scholars moved into top gear, and it was they who would prevail in a cracking contest.

The hosts certainly had the better of the first 20 minutes of play, with Ryan Price in the Chasetown goal tested by a cross from the left and a low shot from Ross Hannah while the latter also struck the woodwork, while Mark Branch went close for the Scholars on 14 minutes but his free kick fizzed past the far post…
