Pics dig in to burst through Leek

Rushall Olympic extended their winning run to seven games with a hard fought victory at Leek Town that stretched their reserves of spirit and character.

The Pics were forced into two changes in their midfield with Gary Fitzpatrick and Ant Maguire replacing Nick Amos and Christian Dacres. Richard Blythe moved into a more defensive role allowing Maguire to support the attack whenever possible…

Rushall Olympic progressed safely through to the Quarter-Final stage of the Staffordshire Senior Cup with a relatively straight forward 3-1 success in front of a sparse crowd at Evo-Stik First Division South rivals Leek Town.

The Pics will now meet old Midland Football Alliance sparring partners Biddulph Victoria in the last eight at Dales Lane on a date to be arranged.

The visitors opened their account four minutes prior to the interval when midfield Stuart McNaught out jumped the Leek defence to flick in a deep free-kick with his head…

Scholars move to secure home tie

A home tie in the playoff semi-finals is now a virtual certainty for Chasetown following an excellent 3-1 win at Leek Town on Thursday.

John Branch headed Leek’s opening attack clear in the third minute as some lively end-to-end action was displayed over the opening minutes, with both defences able to counter whatever was thrown at them.

The Blues lost Steve Brannan after he took a knock 18 minutes in, but they had a great chance to take the lead four minutes later when Dan Cope produced a fine solo run and attempted to fire over Ryan Price but his shot cannoned off the crossbar…

The Pics couldn’t have had a worse start as their confident looking guests forged ahead after only two minutes. The goal came courtesy of skipper Niki Preston who attempted and failed to head a ball clear, allowing Ashley Miller time and space to cut into the left side of the box and clip a shot off the inside of the near post and into the net…

Perrow makes goalscoring comeback
Dean Perrow made a triumphant return to first team action as he scored the only goal of the game against Leek Town on Wednesday.

In a match where the teams cancelled each other out for most of the cold but dry evening, Perrow made his first Scholars appearance since August 15th last year when he suffered a leg injury at Lincoln United in the first league game of the season, and he was on the scoresheet within two minutes of his comeback.
