Reedswood Park will once again be the venue for football matches played by the Walsall Junior Youth League. Games at the park were suspended after complaints from local residents regarding inconsiderate and dangerous parking by parents.
The seven-a-side league has 16 teams from Walsall, Brownhills, Pelsall, Bloxwich, Wednesbury, Tipton, Cheslyn Hay, Great Wyrley and Cannock. Following claims of parking chaos in streets around the Bentley Lane park on Sunday mornings, the council responded to the concerns of residents by ordering the league to play their fixtures at Aldridge Airport in Bosty Lane. Now, after talks between the league, local residents, park staff and Walsall Police, games will be played back at Reedswood Park.
Householders in Reedswood Lane and Reedswood Gardens suffered blocked driveways and parents using residential parking bays. Head of Green Spaces at Walsall Council, Graham Hood said: “It has been agreed that Reedswood Park will host mini-football with the league agreeing to take responsibility for the management of the car park during match days.”
Kevin Morris of the Junior Youth League said: “Traffic cones will be placed at the kerbside on the hill to stop visitors parking on Bentley Lane, and cones will be used in the cul-de-sac areas. We’ll also be putting up ‘no parking’ signs.”
