A surprise visit by the Mayor and Mayoress of Walsall delighted visitors at the Four Seasons open garden day next to Walsall Arboretum on Buchanan Road on Sunday.

Walsall Mayor, Cllr John O’Hare, fresh from his re-election as councillor for Aldridge Central and South ward, accompanied Mayoress Diane Leese on a tour around the prize garden created by Marie and Tony Newton.
The dignitaries spent an hour meeting visitors and exploring the garden which is ablaze with colour from azaleas and acer foliage.
As the name implies, the Newton’s Four Seasons garden has become a regular feature on the Walsall calendar, with public open days around the year, since they shot to national attention when awarded the prestigious title of Daily Mail ‘Garden of the Year’ in 2007.
Tony Newton said: “We are extremely grateful that our Mayor and the Mayoress, who have so many other commitments, chose to give so much of their time and showed such interest in our garden.”
Over the weekend, 245 visitors raised a total of £807 for Walsall National Trust and the National Garden Scheme.
The garden, at 26 Buchanan Road, WS4 2EN, will be open again next Saturday and Sunday 15/16 May from 10am to 5pm and proceeds will be donated to Walsall Heart Care and the National Garden Scheme.
