Free newspaper Birmingham Post Lite will return to residents’ doormats this week following a month-long hiatus.

Last week it emerged that the weekly title, published by paid-for newspaper the Birmingham Post, had been suspended before Christmas until further notice.

Newspaper publisher Chris Bullivant has told advertisers that his latest free title in Birmingham will fail if they don’t rally round to support it.

And in a letter to customers he accused rival publisher Trinity Mirror of slashing prices to drive him out of business.

A spokesperson for Trinity Mirror said: “We don’t engage in anti-competitive practice”…

Birmingham’s newspaper war entered a new phase this week as Trinity Mirror and entrepreneur Chris Bullivant unveiled their rival titles – and it appears that round one has gone to the Birmingham Post Lite.

The TM title was first to market, a free version of the city’s flagship weekly newspaper that will be delivered to 18,000 homes in upmarket areas. Post Lite was published this morning (Thursday), on the same day as its paid-for sister title, and 24 hours ahead of the Birmingham Press, the Bullivant title whose launch triggered the battle.

A row has broken out – and not for the first time – between Trinity Mirror and the Midlands publisher Chris Bullivant Snr. They are now trading insults, sadly, rather than newspapers. According to Bullivant, chairman of Bullivant Media, he could have helped to save a number of Trinity’s nine Midlands weekly papers, which it is in the process of closing, including the Walsall Observer…
