Jaguar Land Rover parent Tata Motors is in talks with a Chinese sport utility vehicle maker regarding a possible assembly agreement, reports have claimed.

Reuters said the Indian company was holding discussions with Great Wall Motor Co about the possibility of a tie-up.

The move, if confirmed, would tie in with recent speculation about Tata wanting a foothold in China…

British Salt, the Cheshire-based salt producer has been sold to Jaguar Land Rover parent Tata Group in a deal worth more than £100m.

Tata’s Cheshire-based subsidiary Brunner Mond – a leading chemicals manufacturer – will pay £93m up front for Middlewhich-based British Salt. Subject to regulatory approval the deal is expected to be completed next month…

Workers at Jaguar Land Rover, including employees at two plants in the West Midlands, have voted overwhelmingly to accept a deal including a two-year pay rise which union leaders said would secure their jobs for a decade.

Unite said 74% of workers at Castle Bromwich and Solihull, along with Merseyside plant Halewood, accepted the deal which will see pay increase by 5% this year and by RPI inflation plus 0.5% the following year…

Car giant Jaguar Land Rover is to invest billions of pounds in its business, creating thousands of new jobs and safeguarding its UK factories.

The new jobs will include 1,500 at the Halewood plant on Merseyside next year, while the other two manufacturing sites at Castle Bromwich and Solihull in the West Midlands will be retained, ending fears for their future.

The company said it had ambitious plans for new models and volume growth and announced a “landmark” pay and conditions deal with trade unions…

Global sales of Jaguar Land Rover climbed by 47% last month compared with June 2009.

Parent company Tata Motors announced that 20,189 vehicles were bought with 6,776 of them being Jaguar and 13,413 of them Land Rovers.

Jaguar Land Rover parent Tata Motors has seen its global ratings improve on the back of rising car sales. Global ratings agency Moody’s Investors Service said it had given the company credit for the quick turnaround in the performance of JLR as well as an improvement in its domestic businesses.

Upgrading Tata to B2 corporate rating from B3, Moody’s said the improvements translated into “stronger than expected credit metrics and an improved financial profile”…
