Police in Walsall are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery which took place at a pub in Streetly.

The robbery happened at the Farmer Johns Pub in Aldridge Road between 11.25 and 11.35pm on Sunday 10 October.

Four offenders, all wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, approached two members of staff as they were locking up and threatened them. The offenders were armed with a gun, a machete and a crowbar.

The offenders then stole an amount of cash from the safe before escaping. No-one was injured.

Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

DC Jen Aston from Force CID said: “Due to the time of the incident it may be that people may have been passing or saw the offenders leave, we need anyone who has any information to come forward.”

DC Aston added: “We would also like to trace the occupants of a dark coloured car seen in the vicinity of the pub at the time. Anyone with information should contact Force CID at Bloxwich on 0345 113 5000 ext 7889 6651.”

The future of a 284-year-old pub in Hill Top has been secured after the landlord signed a new five-year deal to stay on. Planning permission to convert the Sow & Pigs pub into homes was last year refused following protests and a 600-signature petition.

Now landlord Nirmal Cheb, who took charge in October, 2008, is hoping to boost the fortunes of the pub, which dates back to 1726.
