After donating over 100 Christmas gift boxes to victims of domestic violence in Walsall, staff at AF Blakemore & Son Ltd in Willenhall volunteered to redecorate a local community church.

Thirty employees at the wholesale grocery distributor spent 2 days sprucing up communal rooms at St John’s Community Church in Scarborough Road, Pleck, and even found time to put up some Christmas decorations. The Blakemore group supplies over 700 SPAR stores across the country and operates more than 200 convenience stores through its Tates subsidiary. Over the last 2 years, Tates raised £300,000 for the NSPCC.

The company is part of the Cares Business in the Community network of more than 350 companies that address social issues in communities by volunteering their employees’ skills and time during business hours. Cares is a national initiative to increase the impact of employee volunteering in communities of greatest need and tackle social issues including education, employability and economic renewal.
