Chris Hutchings admits that it has been a “big disappointment” for Walsall to go out of two cup competitions at the first hurdle in the first month of the season.
The Saddlers exited the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at the hands of League Two side Chesterfield, who handed them a 2-1 beating at The Banks’s Stadium this week. Having already departed the Carling Cup in the first round, that leaves Hutchings’ side with only the FA Cup as a potential diversion from the gruelling league marathon – and, more significantly, their only remaining chance of an extra revenue-raiser.
Walsall’s cup fortunes under Hutchings remain bafflingly uninspired…
