Spectacular carnival fun for Bloxwich

Carnival Day 2010 dawned in Bloxwich with, it has to be admitted, a feeling of some trepidation. Would the weather hold out after last year’s disastrous downpour? Would carnival-goers be put off by the Red Route Runaround currently making a shambles of the village centre?

As it happens, we needn’t have worried, despite the odd hiccup in the weather and having to negotiate byzantine diversions, revellers from across Bloxwich and beyond thronged in their thousands to enjoy the annual spectacular, this year on Saturday 7 August, in King George V Playing Fields, Bloxwich.

The event began, of course, with the gathering at Bentons’ Sons of Rest of the Bloxwich Carnival 2010 ‘Royal party’ – Jessica Jones (Queen), Jessica Watts (Princess) and Holly Arrowsmith (Rosebud), all of whom looking stunning in their dresses and sequined burgundy sashes. They were naturally looking forward with great excitement to being publicly crowned, and the fourteen young Carnival Ambassadors from local primary schools were also buzzing at the prospect of being presented with their medallions by the local dignitaries also gathered there…
