Rookie WM cops in £50m savings limbo

Hundreds of dedicated rookie cops are being prevented from guarding streets – because cash-strapped WM Police is trying to save a whopping £50 million. Up to 200 would-be officers have passed all parts of the gruelling selection process to join the force, but have yet to be given start dates to go on the beat.

And a further 500 who are part way through the selection process are worried they may face the same fate. There are fears that the force may lose out on top quality coppers as recruits look to other careers as they get fed up with the wait…
