Conservative controlled Walsall Council has today become the first West Midlands Council to publish all spending over £500 on it’s website. This is a big step forward in openness, accountability and driving improvements in local services.
It’s been something i’ve been pushing for since I first went on Corporate Scrutiny a couple of years ago. I urged the Council to embrace social media, the digital age and to start sharing data with the public. Afterall it’s not the Council’s data – it’s belong’s to us – it’s the taxpayer’s data.
