Anger as thieves target Barr Beacon memorial during repairs
Thieves have stolen copper from a Walsall’s Barr Beacon war memorial, in the middle of repairs being made to the borough landmark following another raid earlier this year.
They struck at Barr Beacon, which lies on a 240-acre site off Beacon Road, Aldridge, overnight on Tuesday 29 June, forcing their way through razor wire and corrugated sheets to climb up scaffolding.
The attack has delayed work at the stone structure and left the Barr Beacon Trust looking at an additional bill of around £4,000 for further repairs and increased security at the site, on top of the £9,200 already being spent on current repairs…
