£11million to tackle GP shortages across West Midlands

An extra 200 doctors are being trained to combat a severe shortage of GPs in Midland suburbs. Inner-city Birmingham, north and east of the city, Sandwell, Walsall, Dudley and Wolverhampton are on a hit list of the worst affected areas for being “under-doctored”.

In recent years, the NHS has had to cope with a wave of GPs reaching retirement age and leaving the service.
