“So, what is your Britain’s Got Talent talent?”

Jayne Howarth's Weblog 5 Apr 10

Should pupils be involved in the recruitment of staff at their schools? Some teachers think not.

A survey by the NASUWT has decried the practice, claiming that panels of empowered youngsters have asked them frivolous questions as part of the interviewing process. According to reports, teachers have been humiliated by the questions, which are in the vein of “if you could be on Britain’s Got Talent, what would your talent be?” They claim they have been robbed of their dignity. They also claim the process is “dangerous”…

Bolkow Junior says:

When it comes to employment/equal opps law, can the children be prosecuted for improper questions or comments? (e.g. labelling an applicant as ‘Humpty Dumpty) If not, they shouldn’t be involved in the selection process

martin says:

Look at the questions they are complaining about (Telegraph article).
They are actually valid and pertinent; moreover they are quite challenging, so it sounds to me like the sour grapes of weak candidates.
I particularly like the question about ‘which font would you be?’ and for a primary school teacher to be asked to sing a song seems
eminently sensible; I think teachers need to get a grip!
